Housel Bay Beach – The Lizard – Housel Bay Beach – The Lizard
Housel Bay Beach hosts one of the most southerly beaches in mainland Britain, just a half a mile from Lizard Point, Cornwall. A small, sandy beach is revealed only at low tides. At high tide the beach is entirely reclaimed by the sea and there is genuine danger in being cut off by the unforgiving tide.
The beach sits in a sheltered location in Housel Bay, at the foot of steep cliffs. Because of the extreme difficulty in accessing the beach and the dangers of the tide, it is not a beach suited to families or the less able bodied. The South West Coast Path passes Housel Bay, walkers along which will be rewarded with splendid coastal views en route to the Lizard Lighthouse.
Lizard Peninsula holiday cottages provide self catering holiday accommodation to visitors to the area. Holiday cottages in Helston(12 miles by road) and Falmouth (20 miles) offer further self catering options.
The nearest facilities and parking are to be found at Lizard Point, from where Housel Bay can be reached on foot (a little over half a mile in distance). Access to the beach is extremely difficult, via a steep path from the cliffs. There is restricted access for dogs on the beach from Easter to October.
