The Pendarves Inn – Carnhell Green – The Pendarves Inn – Carnhell Green

This pleasant village local, a four-square granite building sitting at the village crossroads, calls itself a ’gastropub’. It has a single L-shaped room with a restaurant area at one end. A 300-year old former coaching stop, it was known for some years as the Caddy’s Arms, but has recently reverted to its former name which celebrates a prominent 17th-century Cornish family of mine owners and politicians. The real ales always features Cornish beers, and a craft beer from St Austell is usually available. Traditional pub food from a good, realistic menu is offered daily, all day until 21:00. There is live entertainment including karaoke at weekends. Outside drinking is confined to a couple of tables at the front of the pub, which also has a small car park behind. Daytime buses to Camborne & Helston call nearby.

The Seven Stars Pub – Helston

The Seven Stars Pub – Helston – The Seven Stars Pub – Helston

This is mainly a young persons’ pub in the middle of town. The single large bar room, frequently busy and noisy, has four handpumps on display but only two in operation most times, on which the changing guest ales appear. The open central walkway (good also for wheelchairs) from the front door is slate-paved, with both the bar on the left and and the seating area to the right sunken to a slightly lower level. The back door leads onto a decked area with steps down to an enclosed, surprisingly long old and rather uneven cobbled area with tables and the odd palm tree. Regular disco, karaoke or live bands appear. Food is available Monday to Thursday, no food Fri-Sun. The pub was named for some years after Bob Fitzsimmons, a former world boxing champion who lived locally.
